Hi I ride a bicycle for a temporary transportation & I wanted to add a motor engine on my Schwinn bicycle. If I go to the bicycle store, how much would they charge me? If they say $400, in my getting rip off? Thank you.

You need to check with your states department of transportation to find out what is legal first. A bike shop will charge an arm and a leg to mount a motor on a bike. I would look for one already assembled for a few hundred dollars. Not all motor kits are created equal, some only have a 30 warranty.

You’re talking gas, I assume. Is it 4 cycle (like a lawn mower) or 2 cycle (like a weed whacker)? Are they supplying the motor kit? $400 for labor is steep, but not surprising. You can do it yourself fairly easily and you can get a 2 cycle kit for less than $200. Really nice 4 cycle kits from Honda are less than $500.

Or go electric. You could do a hub motor and cheap battery for around $500, have no problems with legality, ride it anywhere (even indoors) and they are really, really easy to do yourself. Just change the front wheel, clip the battery on the rack, mount the controller on the handlebars, charge it up and you are done.

Regardless, bikes are simple. YOU can do it.

it’s quite involved, the conversion/addition

is that price including the motor or not?
if it does, its; cheap
if not, i don;t know really

do they guarantee any of the work, for how long?

wle.

Your better off just buying one for at cheapest 600 dollars instead of going though labor charges .
